Breaking: Buhari extends IGP Adamu’s tenure by 3 months

  ONYEAMA DANIEL, AWKA PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has extended the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu for three months. The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi disclosed this on Thursday while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said that the decision of the President to extend the IGP’s tenure for another three months was to give time for proper selection of the new helmsman He said, “Mr President has decided that the present IGP, Mohammed Adamu, will continue to serve as the IG for the next three months, to allow for a robust and efficient process of appointing a new IG. “This is not unconnected to the desire of Mr President to, not only have a smooth handover, but to also ensure that the right officer is appointed into that position. ” Mr President is extending by three months to allow him get into the process of allowing a new one.” Asked if the announcement coming now had not created a lacuna, the Minist...

Alleged bribery: EFCC asks Appeal Court to order Justice Yunusa’s retrial

  ONYEAMA DANIEL, AWKA The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has asked the Court of Appeal in Lagos to list Mohammed Yunusa, a Federal High Court judge recently discharged of bribery charges, for retrial. It made the prayer in a February 2, 2020 notice of appeal sighted by our correspondent on Wednesday. An Ikeja High Court had in a ruling on January 25 discharged Yunusa of the bribery charges, citing a December 23, 2020 letter by the National Judicial Council which lifted the suspension slammed on him in July 2016. Before the ruling, EFCC prosecutor, Wahab Shittu, had called 10 prosecution witnesses with only about two more to be presented, when the court struck out Mr Yunusa’s name off the charges, and ordered his alleged co-accomplice, Esther Agbo, to continue facing the trial. Dissatisfied, the EFCC raised three grounds of appeal in the notice of appeal. Oil thief bags two years jail term in Rivers

  ONYEAMA DANIEL, AWKA A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Tuesday sentenced one Sa’adu Isa to two years’ imprisonment for dealing in petroleum products without a licence. Isa was convicted after pleading guilty to a one count amended charge bordering on conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum products, contrary to Section 1 (17) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. The convict was initially arraigned before Justice E. A. Obile by the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The charge read, “That you, Sa’adu Isa, and others unknown, on or about January 20, 2021, at Eleme, Rivers State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, without lawful authority or a licence to deal in petroleum products, had in your possession 40,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil in a Howo tanker truck with registration number, Kano TNR 02 XT, thereby committing an offence contrary to Sec...
